Stan Schreier

Stan Schreier

Sadly, classmate Stan Schreier passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, after a lengthy battle with several health issues including lung and prostate cancers and COPD. Stan was born on August 3, 1944 in Hawthorne, CA and together with his sister Diana Schreier Duke (S`65) the family moved to South Gate in 1951. Stan attended Tweedy School and SGJHS before joining the Class of `62 at SGHS. In his senior year Stan was one of the lead actors in the drama class production of "Our Town" and in the spring he also starred in the production of "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". Stan met and remained close friends with 4 classmates for almost 60 years; Tom DelCourt, Terry Edwards, Jim Lucas and Mike O'Donnell. These 5 buddies met in Las Vegas and went on a cruise to Alaska together with their wives to celebrate their 70th birthdays.

After graduation, Stan joined the Army and served 3-years primarily in Japan. Stan worked at several different occupations but he dedicated himself to the bowling industry, which was his real passion, for over 25 years. His love for bowling came naturally from his dad who was an executive with the So. Calif. Bowling Assoc.. Stan is on record for having bowled a perfect 300 game plus an 800 3-game series. Besides bowling Stan also enjoyed a good round of golf and playing cards with family and friends.

Stan married the love of his life, Deanna on September 1, 1989 and they celebrated their 30th anniversary this past September. After living in the San Luis Obispo area for several years they moved to Graham, WA where they have enjoyed life together for the past 20-years.

Stan is survived by his wife, Dee, his sister Diana, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2020. "Stan the Man" was a great husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was always there for his family and friends and can Rest in Peace knowing that he was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Tom DelCourt, Mike O'Donnell, Jim Lucas and Terry Edwards will join Stan's wife and sister, Diana Schreier Duke(S65) in a celebration of Stan's life on April 4th.  We will be going up Mt. Reiner to commit his ashes to the ground that he loved so much and then bowling 1 ball each at his favorite bowling alley in his memory.  Thinking back over the many years since we all said goodbye to SGHS the memories are thick and great.  Stan was a wonderful friend - always there when you needed him.  He is missed.

I remember Stan as a great guy, friendly, fun and very nice as well as handsome.  He was one of my close friend's boyfriend and they remained good friends through the years.  It was so good to see Stan at our Reunion Picnic and he was still the nice guy I remember!  May he rest in peace and prayers of comfort for his family and friends.
