In Memory

Janet Wolf (Sierra)

Janet Lynne (Wolf) Sierra was born on December 22, 1944 and grew up in South Gate with her two brothers, John and Wally, living on Otis, and neighbors and life-long friends with Tod Wakefield and family.  She attended Bryson Avenue Elementary School and South Gate Junior and Senior High Schools.

After high school she worked for Transcon Lines, a trucking and shipping company.  She was married for a time and out of that marriage, Janet proudly claimed, “...the two best things were her daughters, Stacie and Stefanie!”  They lived in Cypress and she was a stay-at-home mom for a time.

Janet’s life has always revolved around her love of family.  Her brother Wally played probaseball for the Colt 45’s, which became the Houston Astros, the Padres, and was a pitcher for the Angels.  Janet and her mom traveled to follow his baseball career and they made scrapbooks of the memories.

In 1985 Janet and the girls moved to Anaheim Hills so she could be near her parents, who lived in Yorba Linda, to take care of them.  When her father passed away in 1990, she brought her mom to live with her and she became part of their family activities.

After her mom passed, Janet went to work for her brother Wally, who now owned a shipping and trucking company, and she “retired” in 2013 to watch her grandchildren.  Through the years, Janet loved to travel and cruise and she kept very busy!  As a loving, involved grandma, she didn’t miss a baseball game, church choir performance, and took her love of shopping to make sure her grandkids didn’t go without a thing!

In 2012 Stacie and Stefanie brought Janet to our 50th Reunion, where, even though she was suffering with some health issues, she had a great time!  During the last six or seven years, her health issues increased, she couldn’t walk, and she was suffering with heart disease and vascular dementia.  After battling these issues, her daughters moved her to a home where she could get more care.  She loved it there and continued to be very social!  Her daughter Stacie said that she would sit by the door and greet everyone, played games, and kept a busy calendar with activities in the home!  Janet's daughters made sure she got her hair done every week and her nails every two weeks and Janet loved the attention! The picture above of Janet was on her Memorial Program and her daughter Stacie gave us permission to share it.  The love she had shown to her parents and family through the years was lovingly returned to her.

Sadly, Janet succumed to congestive heart failure and dementia and passed away on May 28, 2021.  She is dearly missed by her two daughters and their husbands, Stacie and Mike Sierra-Fiedler and Stefanie and Randy Ransom, and four grandchildren, Wyatt, Sierra, Zachary, and Sadie.  May you rest in peace dear classmate.

It is with deep sadness to learn of the passing of my dear life long friend Janet. We've been friends since our early days at Bryson and shared many wonderful memories together over the years. Her parents Mr/Mrs. Wolf were so supportive and proud of her and were good friends of my family. Janet loved her family especially her two daughters along with brothers Wally, John and Jeff. She was a lady with class and will always be remembered with the fondest priceless memories. My sincere condolences to her family.  Rest well my friend.

So sad to learn of Jan's passing. I loved her family and often visited with Jan and her mom way back in the 60's. Time and life may have separated us but I have such great memories. Jan, rest in peace.

Our senior year in high school, my dad amd I picked up Linda Wellman and Janet to go to school in the mornings. She was always smiling and happy. I remember the 50th reunion when we saw Janet and her daughters. God bless all of you and Janet in Heaven,  Sue Ross

Janet sat in front of me during Algebra (geometry?...whatever) class.  We chatted quite a bit which might explain why my grade in that class was less than stellar.  She was always bubbly, happy, and fun and was excited about Wally's success.  RIP my chatty friend.

Janet and I only said hi as we passed each other at SGHS but she always had a smile. My deepest sympathy to Janet's family and friends.

I found these words in a pamphlet at church one Sunday many years ago:

"I said to the man who stood at the gate of years; Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown. And he replied, Go out into the darkness and put your hand in the hand of God. That shall be to you brighter than any light and safer than a known way. So, I went forth and finding the hand of God, trod gladly into the night"
