I graduated from State Street Elementry School with Lyn Beckstrom (and his twin brother, Lee).  Always found it hard to tell the two apart.  One wore brown glasses and the other black ones but I could never seem to keep track of who wore which ones.  I grew up on the Northwest side of South Gate and most of the kids from State Street went on to attend Jr. & Sr. High in Huntington Park.  It saddens me to see so many names on the “In Memory” list and to find Lyn and four others from State Street (Robert Christy, Linda Lacey, Bob Landrum, and Peggy Perkins) on it.

I also remember Lyn and Lee so much from State Street, and had fun trying to tell them apart.  I remember terrorizing the play ground with the twins in second grade in "Gibby's Gang"!  What nuts we were and what fun we had.  Wonderful memories.

I REMEMBER LYN AND HIS BROTHER VERY WELL AS WE WERE ON BOWLING LEAGUES TOGETHER. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY LYN WAS LEFT HANDED. THE SAME FOR TERRY AND GARY BREWSTER, TERRY I BELIEVE WAS ALSO LEFT HANDED. THE ONLY WAY YOU COULD TELL ANY OF THEM APART. I ALSO CANNOT BELIEVE HOW MANY OF OUR GREAT CLASS MATES HAVE PASSED ON. THRU THE YEARS I HAVE THOUGHT ALOT ABOUT WHERE EVERYONE HAS BEEN AND WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN UP TO. THIS IS SUCH A GREAT PROGRAM TO KEEP US ALL INFORMED. REST IN PEACE LYN.         RICK HOLT

Yes it was with great sorrow that I heard about Lyn's passing almost nine years ago.  Lyn and Lee were two of my closest friends in high school.  Lyn, Lee, my twin brother Gary, and I did everything together.  As Rick Holt said we used to all bowl together at Beacon Bowl in Huntington Park, Trianon Lanes and Arena Bowl in South Gate.  I remember we were also in a Saturday morning league at the old Arena Bowl on Atlantic Ave. and the four of us where on a team together called the 4-B's.  Lyn was the better bowler carrying about a 170 average then, with Lee, Gary, and I averaging closer to 160.

Even after graduating from SGHS, Lyn, Lee, Gary, and I were "gym rats" playing many a spirited half-court basketball games on Saturday late mornings during the winter and early spring months.  In fact if it had to do with sports the four of us were always together bowling, playing pool, basketball, 3-par golf or just watching important Laker and Dodger games on television - usually at the Beckstrom's big old comfortable house in Huntington Park.

To show the character of Lyn, after we graduated from SGHS, our church had a very formal dinner, and I the poor college student only had a clunker to drive my date to that dinner with.  Lyn on the other hand had a good paying job at Title Insurance in Los Angeles and he had just bought a brand new 1965 Chevelle Sports Coupe with a 389 C.I. engine and four-on-the floor transmission (the car is worth a fortune today).  Without hesistation Lyn let me borrow his brand new car so that I could take my date to the dinner in style.  What great great times we had together, what a guy, and I will miss him dearly.  A true friend!
