60th SGHS BUS TRIP/VISIT

Two school buses took us from the Holiday Inn Long Beach Airport, down Tweedy Blvd, by the park, Junior High, and on to South Gate High School, where we were taken back to being 15 to 18 again!  The Principal, Leo Gonzalez, and terrific students from the Media Class met us outside the cafeteria to interview some of us to see what it was like to be a student here "way back then!"  We enjoyed a great, catered breakfast, complete with the LA Unified School District's yummy cinnamon rolls that we enjoyed in the quad area every school day back in the 1960's!  Then the students took us on a tour of the school, across the bridge from one existing building to a new one, up all three floors, and into several classrooms.  Nostalgia hit and we were back in English, Physiology, History, some of us found where our lockers were, and we got to see the new Media Classroom and hear the excited students share their experiences in and dreams for this class...we caught a vision of how we might help them with their dreams!  The auditorium hasn't changed, but now there is a Forensic Class under the stage!  The football stadium had a game going on and one of us put his feet on the track where he once ran!  The school buses took us back to the hotel as we cruised Tweedy once again!  We all were so thankful we had taken this fabulous trip that Wendell Jackson so generously thought of and provided for us!  We took back the motto, "Once a Ram, always a Ram!"
