Robert Shaffer

Robert Shaffer

Sadly, classmate Robert Shaffer passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019, as a result of blood clotts after successful back surgery.  His loving family was by his side.  Robert, or Bob, as many of us know him, was born October 21, 1944 in Detroit MI to Francis and Dorothea Shaffer and was the third of eight children.  His life was very full and his Classmate Profile tells his story in his own words after high school and beyond, so please be sure to read it!

For over the past 20 years, Robert was a realtor in the Wise County Ft Worth area and was active in the Lion's Club.  He enjoyed working on his farm in Decatur, Texas and being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Carole, two sons, Robert and Philip, daughter-in-law, Karen, and Illiana, Isaac and Olivia, his three grandchildren, along with his mother, Dorothea, and sisters, Frances Shaffer Cope (S'58), Judee Shaffer Sedler (S'63), twin sisters Jann Shaffer and JoAnn Shaffer Mischlich (S'72), Chantay Shaffer Freeland (S'78) and Danelle Shaffer Kelly (S'81).

A Celebration of Life service was held at New Hope Church in Decatur Texas on what would have been his 75th birthday, Monday, October 21.   He is dearly missed by his loving wife Carole, family and many friends.  Rest in peace, dear classmate, and may God comfort his family and friends.

I am sorry to see another classmate pass away.  My parents used to comment how sad it was to see their friends and acquances die off.  Now I understand.

Bob was always a spirited "character" of sorts.  During our Tweedy days he and I were part of the Saturday archery community at the park.  Facilities were replaced by the golf course.  Anyway, Bob would occasionally shoot an arrow straight up into the air just to watch everyone scatter for shelter (there was none)!  Luckly we all survived that while Bob enjoyed some hearty laughter!

My heart is saddened to see the positng about Robert's death. We are all hovering around that 75 year old mark and as we celebrate our long lives, we are reminded how precious each day has become. My deepest sympathy goes out to Bob's wife, children and extended family. He was such a great guy. I can remember him goofing off with some of his guy pals and just being a fun person to be around. May God pour his healing calm over you all. Rest quietly my friend.

So sorry to hear about Bob.  We had a few fun conversations prior to the 50th.  He was waiting for the arrival of a baby grandchild and couldn't commit to coming to the party.  I promised that if he could come at the last minute I would have a place for him at my table and would even share food if necessary.  He loved that!

I only slightly know Bob, but I am saddened by his death.  One of my few regrets in life was that I didn't stay in contact with my friends or acquaintances. Hmm. a word with three vowels in a row.  Take care everyone especially during this time of Corona virus.  Let's not die young!
