In Memory

Linda Dalke (Kirkpatrick)

Linda Dalke (Kirkpatrick)

Linda Dalke Kirkpatrick passed away July 20, 2019 in Canyon, Texas.  Linda was born March 29, 1944, in Bell, California. Growing up in South Gate, the Dalke family lived on Kaufman, just four blocks from Southern, and she attended Bryson Avenue Elementary School, South Gate Junior and Senior High.  She was in Camp Fire Girls and a good student.  Living close to South Gate Park, she worked as a cashier at the South Gate Plunge and got to know lots of people during the summers.

After high school Linda attended Long Beach State College and then the University of California Santa Barbara where she got her BA degree and teaching credential.  In 1970 she and Russ Kirkpatrick (S'62) were married and they had two children, Kathleen (Katie) and Justin.  When they were first married, they lived in South Gate and then moved to Los Alamitos.  Eventually they divorced.

Linda spent several years teaching Kindergarten through the third grade and in her 32 years of teaching elementary school, both as a full-time and part-time teacher, she worked in three districts:  Milpitas (near San Jose), Montebello Unified, and Magnolia (Stanton and West Anaheim). In her 60's she returned to school and earned a master's degree and finished off her teaching career working in the Magnolia School District in 2010.

Linda enjoyed volunteer work and when her children were in 4-H, she became a leader in a project raising puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  Her love for dogs was evident in all the years and she was a dedicated puppy raiser and leader for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  At our 50th Reunion, she was co-raising a puppy with another family.  She also did volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and Knots of Love, where she knitted caps for cancer patients.

A loving, dedicated mother to her two children, even when her family was spread out in various states, she enjoyed visiting often and would either drive or take the train to enjoy the views along the way.  She moved to Texas to help her daughter, Katie, who is raising puppies.  Around the time of her move, Linda was diagnosed with cancer and fought a courageous battle for two years.

She is dearly missed by her loving daughter, Katie, her husband, Blaine Burnett; son, Justin and his wife, Emily; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Cierra and Sean; and sister, Stephanie Williams. May you rest in peace dear classmate.

I did not personally know Linda, but it sounds like she was an incredible human being. May she be close to our lord and savior Jesus Christ and may her loved ones be comforted during this time.

Blessings to the family.
