In Memory

Benny (Ron) Beaver

Born Ronald Benton Beaver in July, 1943, growing up in South Gate in the only two-story home on San Antonio, he became known as "Benny" to his family and friends.  His dad owned Joe's Pool Hall on Tweedy Boulevard across the street from the Allen Theater.  Benny went to Victoria Elementary School, where he was close friends with John Perry, S'62.  John fondly remembers that in the sixth grade they would mow their teacher Miss Campbell's lawn and weed her flower beds.  She paid them $0.25, which seemed like a lot of money, and they most likely then spent it at the Allen Theater!

It seemed like almost everybody knew Benny, as he was a great guy with a happy, friendly personality.  He was also good friends with Ray Martinez, S'62, through junior and senior high school, and their friendship has continued throughout his lifetime!

Benny married Carol Lee Kelley, S'63, and they had three children, Rhonda, Terry, and Jimmy.  For a time, Benny worked part time in the automotive sales department at Sears.  Then he worked for the Vernon Fire Department for 15 years.  He left the Vernon Fire Department and went into construction work, which he successfully did and retired from just a few years ago.

He and Carol moved to Victorville 22 years ago and bought the home of the parents of long-time friend Ray Martinez.  Using his construction skills, Benny and Carol fixed up the home.  In the last years, Benny has been lovingly caring for Carol, who has been ill.  They have been in the process of selling their home and moving into a new community in Victorville so their granddaughter, Camber, who is a nurse, can live with them to help care for Carol.

One of the favorite things Benny and Carol loved to do through the years is to go out to dinner.  Sadly, on April 12, 2021, after they had enjoyed a dinner out, Benny had a heart attack in the parking lot of the restaurant and passed away.

He is dearly missed by his loving wife, Carol, their three children, eight grandchildren, as well as friends throughout the years.  Rest in peace, dear classmate.

I lived next door to Benny on San Antonion St. in South Gate.. I remember him as my very good friend. One Christmas he gave me two poodle dog pins. I still have them. He had a dog named Toby. I knew his entrie family and worked with him at his Grandmother's Frosty Freeze in Huntington Park. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
