Terry Brewster

Terry Brewster

Terry Brewster, twin brother of Gary, passed away December 6, 2014, after a courageous and positive fight to overcome Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis GPA, formerly known as Wegener’s Granulomatosis, a disease with no known cause or cure.  Terry was strong and positive that he would beat it, as were his loving family members!  However, he suffered a stroke and other complications.  After graduation from South Gate, Terry obtained a BA from Cal State University, Long Beach, proudly served in the Army, and later obtained an MBA from Pepperdine College, graduating Summa Cum Laude.  He had an incredible 35-year career in the health care field, with three different companies, and after that did some consulting work, sales for Marriott, and the last years he managed his stock portfolio.  His work and career took him to Southern California, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, and during that time, he and his wife, Diana, built a home on the beautiful golf course, Bermuda Run Country Club, and another home in Windermere, Florida, before moving back to California where they lived in LaQuinta and recently moved to Indio.  Terry and Diana loved couples golfing, she with a 16 handicap, and Terry with a 10.  They also traveled extensively throughout the world.  A loving daughter to Terry, Paulette, followed in his footsteps graduating from Pepperdine and is pursuing a career in Human Resources.  She did not leave his side the three days before his passing.  Terry and Gary had an extremely close relationship and in Gary’s words, “He was my beloved twin and most precious friend and brother that anyone could imagine and will be missed terribly for the rest of my life.” Their father, Ernest, who is 94, is also still with them.  Please take time to read Terry’s Profile—it is so interesting and he had an incredible life!  He will be dearly missed by many.

It is a kick in the gut to learn of Terry's passing.  At our reunion we discussed getting together in the future when his health improved.  The future can be horribly disappointing.

I have been blessed to have many wonderful experiences throughout my life.  None brings more cherrished memories than those associated with my childhood friends in S.G.  The "Brewster Boys" were certainly part of that, from Tweedy days to high school.  I think of exploring on our bicycles, messing around in the L.A. River, b Boy Scouts, summer camps, and playing ball at Lugo School on Abbott and so much more.  It was Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver and Happy Days all rolled into one.  Those times with Terry and the other "guys" were certainly "happy days."

Terry will be missed.  My sincere condolences go out to Gary and all the family members.

Godspeed Terry!  So many of my memories of SGHS are tied up with Gary and Terry.  It's hard to come to grips with this news of Terry passing.  I remember taking them to a USC game against Notre Dame in the Coliseum.  It was 24-0 Notre Dame just before half-time when Terry (or was it Gary?  Who could really tell back then?) decided he'd seen enough and was going to drive home.  Since it was "laundry weekend", uh, I mean "Visit MOM & Dad weekend", I offered to drive Gary (or was it Terry?) home after the game.  As twin #1 was leaving, USC scored, making the half-time score 24-7.  After twin #1 left, USC came out "motivated" and the final score was 55-24 USC.  Never mentioned it again to twin #1 (but only for fear I was actually teasing twin #2...).  Too soon, Terry, you've left us way too soon.

To Gary and your Dad, who I remember well, my heartfelt condolences.

Russ

Although Terry may no longer be with us here physically, he will always remain in my memory and in my heart. Virtually all of the cherished memories I have of the days at Tweedy, SGJHS, and SGHS, include Terry and Gary. I was so happy to see them both at the 50th reunion and to be able to sit with them and their beautiful wives, and to reminisce about our days playing football and baseball in the street or at Lugo School. I think we actually invented some games (like Frisbee-Pool Baseball) in their backyard pool. It was amazing to me that although we hadn't seen one another in decades, we were able to renew our friendship immediately. My relationship with them was so close that I never mistook one for the other - even on the phone. When Gary sent me the message that Terry had passed, I couldn't even move for a few minutes. He was truly a special friend, and my life was changed just by having him in it. God Speed, Terry.

What can a person say when told of such news of a close classmate passes.  It all started at Tweedy Elementary, the group of friends Terry & Gary Brewester, Bill Johnson and a few others in the neighborhood became a close knit group at SGJH and SGHS ...  I remember we all joined Key Club, decorated Rose Floats and did a lot of community service. After high school we sort of split up and lost touch with each other over the years, it was great seeing Terry at the 50th and I am sorry I did not have enough time to spend with him.  I believe Terry is in a better place with no pain or suffering.  R I P  my old friend.
