In Memory

Bill Sidebottom

William (Bill) Joseph Sidebottom, was born on November 23, 1944 in Maywood, California to Calvin and Josephine Sidebottom.  He and his older sister, Sally, grew up in South Gate, where he attended Victoria Elementary School and South Gate Junior and Senior High Schools.  He was a quiet, friendly, really nice guy.  After graduation, Bill went on to attend Compton Junior College for a short time and then went to work.

In 1966 Bill was a night manager at the Crooked Que Family Billard Hall and met the love of his life, Dona Chauvie (S'65) there. They were married September 14, 1968 at the First Baptist Church of Huntington Park. They enjoyed fun adventures riding motocycles, boating, and water skiing and made lifetime memories on treasured vacations spent with Bill's parents in Shingletown, California.

In 1971 Bill and Dona moved to Huntington Beach and made their forever home there.  Their daughter Kristin was born in 1973; son, Joshua, in 1977; and son Jacob, in 1986.  Bill's life centered around family, hard work, and the people he loved the most.  He was a devoted husband of nearly 58 years and supportive father, cheering on his children and later four grandchildren, with quiet pride and unconditional love.

Bill worked in the crane industry for more than 30 years.  He was dedicated to his work and had a strong work ethic, earning the respect of those around him.  He retired in 2010.  He went on to enjoy life's simple pleasures...cheering for the Dodgers, capturing memories through photography, gardening, camping in Yosemite, watching Jeopardy, solving crossword puzzles, spending time with his beloved black labs, and creating beautiful handcrafted furniture and his treasured "Bill Bowls" in his woodworking shop.

Sadly, bill passed away June 17, 2026.  As noted in the beautiful program at his memorial service, "Bill's legacy is not measured by the years he lived, but by the love he gave so freely."   He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  Rest in Peace, dear Classmate.
