In Memory

Mary Sutterfield (Jones)

Mary Lou Sutterfield was born September 9, 1944.  She attended South Gate High School and graduated with us in June 1962.  She was a good student, well liked and had a warm, friendly personality.

Mary Lou married Howard Jones on February 2, 1963 and they were blessed with two children, Samuel born in 1964 and Melissa, born in 1969.  They made their home in Paramount and she loved her family.  Mary Lou worked for IBM as a key punch operator for a time and eventually worked as office manager for three small coporations.

Sadly Mary Lou passed away April 17, 2021 and her daughter wrote the following tribute to her.

"Alzheimers plagues my family.  I watched my mother go from a vibrant woman who always smiled, loved people, to a frail nonverbal, immobile, deteriorated woman who looked frustrated because she was unable to remember or express herself.  Her eyes were once full of life and love, her smile could light up the darkest room but this disease took that away.  It was difficult on my family as caretakers not only because it changed our lives, but every day watching it change her life.

On April 17, 2021 my mother gained her heavenly wings as a result of complications from Alzheimers.  She stopped eating and after being strong for so long, she gave up her fight.  I ask that you help me to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.  Let my mother's legacy and memory help those who can't remember for themselves.  Your contribution will help with research and hopefuly one day find a cure for this debilitating disease that impacts not only those living with it, but their families as well.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Howard Jones, her son Samuel, her daughter Melissa and her son-in-law Jaime and her three grandchildren Cheyenne, Janelle and Victoria, plus many beloved extended family members.

Alzheimers Association Home Office 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL  60601, 24/7 helpline 800-272-3900."

May you rest in peace, dear classmate.

Mary Lou was most definitely a sweet person that I was proud to know in school. I was sad to hear of her passing. My sincere condolences to her family. Take pride in knowing she had wings before the end.
